How to Change Colors in WordPress

Want to refresh your website’s look without a full redesign? Changing the color scheme is a quick and effective way to do it. WordPress includes built-in customization tools that let you update your site’s colors with just a few clicks. You can apply a unified color palette across your entire site or fine-tune the colors of individual sections for a more personalized touch.

Tip: Using a global palette is the fastest way to maintain visual consistency. However, individual color controls offer more precision if you’re after specific styling.

Apply a Global Color Scheme

Head to Appearance > Customize > Global Style > Global Palette in your WordPress dashboard. This area lets you define your site’s primary colors, such as background, text, links, and accent tones. Once set, these colors automatically apply to most elements, ensuring your design looks cohesive throughout.

Change Colors for Specific Sections

If you want more control, you can update colors in specific areas like the Header & Menu, Posts & Pages, or Site Footer. Just navigate to Appearance > Customize, then open the section you’d like to modify. Most sections include dedicated color pickers for things like background, text, borders, and buttons.

All changes are shown in real-time, so you can instantly preview your new color setup before hitting publish.
