How to Show Breadcrumbs in WordPress

Breadcrumbs help users see where they are on your site and how they got there. For example:

This type of navigation makes your site easier to use – and it can even help with SEO.

Step 1: Choose & Install a SEO Plugin

First, you’ll need a plugin that supports breadcrumbs. Below are three options you can use:

Yoast SEO

  1. Go to Dashboard > Plugins > Add New
  2. Search for Yoast SEO, then Install and Activate
  3. Click Yoast SEO > Settings
  4. Scroll down to the Advanced > Breadcrumbs option
  5. Tweak the settings like separator, prefix, etc. and make sure ‘Enable breadcrumbs for your theme’ is enabled.
  6. Click Save Changes

All in One SEO

  1. Go to Plugins > Add New
  2. Search for All in One SEO, then Install and Activate
  3. Go to All in One SEO > General Settings > Breadcrumbs
  4. Make sure Enable Breadcrumbs is checked
  5. Optional: Turn on shortcode display and adjust settings
  6. Click Save Changes

Rank Math

  1. Go to Plugins > Add New
  2. Search for Rank Math SEO, then Install and Activate
  3. Go to Rank Math > General Settings > Breadcrumbs
  4. Turn on Enable breadcrumbs
  5. Adjust text and styling as needed
  6. Click Save Changes

Step 2: Show Breadcrumbs on Your Site

Once breadcrumbs are enabled in the plugin:

  1. Go to Appearance > Customize > Breadcrumbs
  2. Pick the plugin you’re using
  3. Choose where to show breadcrumbs (single posts, pages, etc.)
  4. Click Publish

Now breadcrumbs will show up on your site to help visitors find their way around.
